Stronger in Grace

Grace is power and healing through the love and mercy of God through the sending of His son Jesus Christ. In one word: forgiveness. In two words: spiritual healing. In three words: favor of God.

"Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ" --Romans 1:7.

"Through Him we received grace"-- Romans 1:5.

These verses reflect grace. Paul continues in the chapter by sharing about a desire that he has to give a gift to the Romans. "I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong" Romans 1:11. This is the gift: "that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith" Romans 1:12.

Depression and anxiety at times may leave one feeling broken and lost. In these moments it is easy to fall away from the path of faithfulness. It is also easy to lack the ability to forgive oneself and others. As well as, being difficult to believe that in these moments one is not worthy of the favor of God. However, while these mindsets exist in the moment. These mindsets are false in their content. The real truth is that grace exists, and fellowship with other believers is healing. Grace from God is then the most healing medicine that one can experience. It is a peaceful relief from all that depression and anxiety stirs up. For one to be reminded of grace in moments that depression and anxiety becoming too much, is the lifesaver.

As believers, we are extended this grace. And as believers we are called to show others this grace. And as believers we are called to show others God, so that they may also experience His grace. When it comes to depression and anxiety: These experiences are real and at times defeating. This defeat blinds us from knowing and recognizing the grace of God. As we watch loved ones go through these defeating moments, it is important to show them and remind them of the grace that is theirs. This reminder provides them strength from within. Grace therefore, is one of the first warriors on the line of defense against depression and anxiety. Matthew 19:26 "with God all things are possible."

With His grace all things are possible,

even healing through the darkest of times

and the anxious of moments.

Scripture:

Romans 1:1-17

Romans 1:5

Romans 1:7

Romans 1:11-12

Matthew 19:26

Questions:

Where do you feel that you are lacking grace right now?

How does this connect with feelings of depression and anxiety?

How does this connect with relationships with others?

What does it feel like to know that God's grace is strength?

Can you extend yourself grace right now? Why or why not?

Prayer:

My Father, Today I come to you with a desire to be filled with grace. I know that through your grace I am made stronger in the battle against things that are painful. Lord, at times it feels that depression, anxiety, and the world are too much. But I know that in you I am stronger. For the difficulties I face, and the difficulties I know that I will face, I come to you. I come to others who know you to be surrounded by them to guide me closer to you. Lord, I know that depression and anxiety can make me feel weak, but I also know that I can feel strong in you. Help me to turn to you in moments of weakness. Help me to turn to you when it feels like it's too much. I pray all of this, and for those who struggle with depression and anxiety. That they may come alongside one another and experience your love and your grace. In your son's name. Amen.
