“Weekly reflections and guidance to support and restore.”
Hi Everyone,
Welcome to Two Eighteen Weekly! Each week, I’ll share thoughts from the week, mental health tips, scripture reflection, upcoming events, and resources to explore. If anything here resonates with you, one of the best ways to show support is to share it with someone else and encourage them to subscribe to He is for Me.
Let's get started!
💭 Thoughts from This Week
Shame or conviction.
2025 was a year of change for me personally and I could see that theme scattered around social media posts and conversations with others about their 2025. One particular post pointed out that it was the year of the snake (Chinese calendar), and that snakes depict shedding. Oddly enough, Christians also have their own experiences with a particular serpent. This serpent set the fall in motion, which changed the world forever. With the shedding of old, and embracing new growth, and reflecting on the fall with God's ultimate plan in redemption it makes sense to talk about shame and conviction.
Let's first be clear, when it comes to shame and conviction intention is very important. I think the idea of Jesus knowing us by our names, and satan knowing us by our sins is a really grounding moment here. Shame knows our sins. Shame keeps us lowered and hiding. Convictions know our Jesus and keep us moving towards the honor that He has set forth for us through His life, death, and resurrection. I mention shame and honor here because that was the culture that Jesus was born into. That was the vertical way of life that He was working to restore. I believe He still does this today through the respectful acknowledgment of convictions.
When I hear the word shame, I instantly think of the vertical way of life during Jesus's life. The honor-shame experience. And I imagine the hand of Jesus reaching down to pull me up out of that place. Because of Him, shame has no place in my story. Conviction on the other hand does. And I am pleased with the convictions that I have had in 2025 that have prepared my heart, mind, and soul for the coming years.
I pray that shame, the focus on your sin, is removed from your path and that conviction, the focus on your growth and God's unconditional love, lights the way of your journey.
🧠 Mental Health Tip
Thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are closely connected. Positive thoughts often lead to positive feelings, which support positive behaviors. Negative thoughts can trigger negative feelings and behaviors in the same way. One helpful approach is to notice the point of origin: if you observe a negative behavior, check your thoughts or feelings. If you notice negative feelings, check your thoughts or behaviors. The same applies to positive experiences — awareness of these connections helps guide intentional responses. When you notice a thought pulling you downward, ask: Is this shame, or is this conviction guiding me toward growth? 📖 Scripture to Reflect On
Romans 8:1—There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Shame was left on the cross. It's an important distinction to make because while we are still held to the consequences of our choices, there is no longer shame that we must live under. What is something that continues to feel shameful that you need to leave at the foot of the cross?
