“Weekly reflections and guidance to support and restore.”
Hi Everyone,
Welcome to Two Eighteen Weekly! Each week, I’ll share thoughts from the week, mental health tips, scripture reflection, upcoming events, and resources to explore. If anything here resonates with you, one of the best ways to show support is to share it with someone else and encourage them to subscribe to He is for Me.
Let's get started!
💭 Thoughts from This Week
Sunday was the 7th anniversary of He is for Me. I cannot believe it has been 7 years since the first launch of this site. In those 7 years so many different paths have been traveled and explored. It has been such a fantastic journey. It has been hard, worthwhile, slow, and fast. But throughout it all God has shown up and continued to prove that His way is always the best way. I started this site after a conversation following my graduation from graduate school with my masters in counseling psychology. The questions were always "what's next?" I had attended a Baptist university and yet I still felt that God wanted to be more involved in mental health. Scripture was often missing from the healing process and the treatment. So many believers were either struggling in silence or feeling shame for needing help. I mean who hasn't heard "if you just believe and trust in God." But we live in a broken world. We experience the fall of creation daily. Creation was the intended glory of God, the way that it was supposed to be. With the fall, we experience the entrance of sin into the world and that includes struggles like depression and anxiety. It's not the ideal, but for some it is the reality. Choosing to start this blog was intended to say that God wants to be with you through the struggle. He walks alongside the brokenhearted, and He sees those struggling with depression and anxiety. I wanted to make a space for people to learn more about God's grace, mercy, and love. As well as a space for people to understand depression and anxiety differently, so that either they themselves could heal or they could better walk alongside their loved ones who were struggling.
And that is where the site started. But where is it now? It is this weekly newsletter, it is a workbook for biblical self-esteem, it is guest slots on podcasts and radio stations, it is sharing God's love through guides and community engagement. It has moved just slightly to the side of mental health, not because it is not still important, it is. But it is now also walking people through the healing adjustments. What do I mean by that? I mean for so many people being unwell became the norm of their life, somewhat comfortable even if not desired. I want to also show that God does not just walk alongside you in the messy, but He also walks alongside you in the healing and days that follow.
🧠 Mental Health Tip
Timeline time! Think of any emotion and on a timeline identify the different times that that emotion showed up in your life. Reflect on each of those times, what can you learn from them? How did God show up in them? As you are coming up on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years, this can be a fantastic time to reflect on how emotions have played an intricate part of your life and where you once were and where you want to be. 📖 Scripture to Reflect On
Joshua 1:9 (ESV)
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
How have you seen God's presence in your life, looking at your timeline how was He present in each of those moments that you highlighted?
