“Weekly reflections and guidance to support and restore.”
Hi Everyone,
Welcome to Two Eighteen Weekly! Each week, I’ll share thoughts from the week, mental health tips, scripture reflection, upcoming events, and resources to explore. If anything here resonates with you, one of the best ways to show support is to share it with someone else and encourage them to subscribe to He is for Me.
Let's get started!
💭 Thoughts from This Week
This week is Thanksgiving. And for those who celebrate it, it often brings a slurry of emotions. There is the rush of the week leading up to it and being prepared. It is the tasks of the day cooking, cleaning, prepping, and socializing. Then you add Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday, and Giving Tuesday. I'm exhausted just by typing all of this. I've seen a lot lately of people simplifying their lives, taking things back to their childhood. Whether it is colorful Christmas trees, or thrifting gifts. It seems that businesses are really pushing the shopping. (I do think that if you are able to Give, Giving Tuesday is a great opportunity to give at the end of the year to support local or worldwide non-profits). My thoughts for this week are: you probably don't need it. And I do not mean to say that to be hurtful, I say that to give you some perspective. As long as I have been a therapist, the stuff has never solved the problems that people face. The chaos, rush, spreading yourself thin, doing everything, and becoming overwhelmed, does not solve the struggles and trials of the year. What has solved those problems? Slowing down, making time for the people and the places that are important to you, and feeling your emotions. The mad dash at the end of the year it just unnecessary. I posted a few weeks back that you do not need these holidays to make a change in your life. You can make a change on April 19th (I'm pretty sure there is no associated holiday on this day). Or June 27th. You can make a change whenever you need to make the change. Your timeline is your own timeline, not societies timeline of wracking up the credit card debt (which yes is a huge reason many people stop going to therapy "I can't afford it because I need to pay off my credit card from December." ) Do what is right for your mental health, spiritual health, emotional health, and physical health during the holidays instead of what you see everyone else doing.
🧠 Mental Health Tip
Write a list of people and places that are an absolute YES to your holidays. Print out a calendar and see where you have some time to spend it doing the things that will truly bring you JOY and not just something to do because everyone is doing it. Your mental emotional health will thank you for the slow down this time of year. And I am pretty sure that your Christmas Tree (if you have one) won't miss the massive amount of presents under the tree. 📖 Scripture to Reflect On
Philippians 4:18-20 (CSB)
"But I have received everything in full, and I have an abundance. I am fully supplied, having received from Epaphroditus what you provided—a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. And my God will supply all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Now to our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen." Here Paul is writing to the church of Philippi and acknowledging their gift and sharing that he has all that he needs, but more so that it is pleasing to God. God gives us each all that we need and more. This does not mean to not be generous with your time, talents, finances, and more, but it does mean to be mindful of how you spend your time, talents, finances, and more. Let everything you do be done for the Glorifying of God, and not for the reward of praise.
