It was recently brought to my attention that "water" is often depicted in the Bible as representing chaos. From a cultural perspective, any Jewish reader or learned person would read "water" and be in the mindset that what is happening in this story is chaos. Often, the Western perspective associates water with peace and calm, and while it can be, I hope to show you how He shows up in these different areas of the Bible and around water and how He shows up for you now, today, in your own experiences of chaos.
Throughout the many water stories, you see God overcoming the chaos and creating order in those moments. In the creation of the world. In the ordering of right vs. wrong. In the guarding of His people. In the chaos of what is life, into a mindset that is less chaotic. These are just a few of the many stories that show just how wonderful He is, and the life that He has for you. Have you ever felt like you are drowning? Drowning in the chaos of life, in the struggles of depression and anxiety? It is possible to use the experiences in the Bible as guidance on how He can change the most chaotic of circumstances and use it for His glory and His plan.
I am hopeful that over the next couple of weeks/posts, I will showcase His love and determination to overcome chaos and struggles. Throughout these next few weeks/posts, I hope that you can use His presence in scriptures that talk about water to apply to your own life and moments of "chaos." In each of these stories, you will see that not only was He present during those times, but He was also willing and able to make changes to shift the chaos to peace. He did it in the Old Testament, and He did it in the New Testament. He is doing it now, with you, today in the current chaos.
I think one of my favorite reminders of the whole story of the Bible is His redeeming and continuing to turn what is chaotic into peace. His desire is to return you and His followers to the way that it was supposed to be. The overarching message in the Bible is returning to what was originally intended and righting the chaos that has happened over time.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I ask that as we embark on this journey of water exploration, we will see You working now as You did then. I pray that people reading this can find themselves hopeful and leaning into You when the world around them becomes chaotic. I pray that these stories will open new opportunities for healing, hope, and change for everyone who needs it. May You have favor over this work and Your people. I pray this in the name of Your Son, Amen.
